Head of School Message

Dear parents/carers,

We have had a lovely first week back at school and it has been wonderful to have sunshine and blue skies while the children have been playing outside.

A huge thank you to the parents who donated towards our dance workshop and the very kind offers from parents to contribute more than £5.  We are delighted to have received enough funds to run the event on Wednesday 5th March and I’m sure this will be a highlight of next week!  Children should come to school in their usual uniform or PE kit (if it is their PE day) on this day.

Thursday 6th March is the official World Book Day and as always, we invite children and staff to dress up as their favourite book character or attend school in comfy reading clothes.  They can bring a favourite story to share with friends and teachers will be planning some World Book Day themed activities.

Please follow this link to see our March online safety newsletter: Online Safety Newsletter Primary March 2025_Bicton_28-02-2025

Hopefully this sunshine will continue over the weekend!

Easter Egg Hunt!

Science Week Poster Competition – Reminder!

In celebration of British Science Week, we are inviting pupils to enter the British Science Week poster competition.  The theme is ‘Change and Adapt’.

There are loads of STEM topics to be explored. Pupils could create a poster showing how plants and animals adapt to changing seasons or surroundings, or how humans have adapted to changing technology. They could look at climate change and how we can adapt our behaviours to protect the environment, or their favourite science experiment and how it shows change. The more creative the interpretation of the theme, the better!

The entry must be on A4 or A3 paper and a scan/photograph of the poster will be submitted.  Please see last year’s winners here.

  • Creativity in approach – Innovative angle on the content or creative interpretation of the theme – don’t be afraid to think outside the box
  • Content – Clear, accurate and informative about a STEM topic
  • Effective communication – presented and communicated in an engaging way

Members of the British Science Association will shortlist entries, and a panel of judges will select a winner in each category. The two runners up in each category will be uploaded to our Facebook page and the public will decide on a ‘popular vote’ winner.

What are the prizes?!

Prizes for the 2024 competition winners included:

Cool Cat Chem Cards, 5-minute STEM books, Shape Aliens Game, At the museum jigsaw, A Day in the Life…books, Shroot pouches, Memberships for My Science Club, MegaWatt Games, SuperQuesters: The Case of Angry Sea STEM adventure books by QuestFriendz, A collection of Science Works books, Two space-themed 3D building playsets, Our Living Planet book, WWF adoption pack, Annual subscription to Save My Exams, A 12 month subscription to Alfresco learning.

We are only able to submit 5 entries so classes will be doing secret votes for their winner.  Please bring entries into school by Monday 17th March.

Staffing update – Maple and Oak Classes

I am delighted to inform you that from Monday 3rd March, Miss Nagington has agreed to teach in Maple Class full time for the remainder of the Spring term and into the Summer term.  This means I will be able to provide maths and English lessons for the Year 6 pupils for 4 mornings a week across most of the term.  This will be to prepare the pupils for their transition towards Year 7.  Mr Harris will continue to teach the Year 5 children to prepare them for their transition to Year 6.

Drop off and pick up locations will remain the same.

Parent Meetings

Parent meetings will be taking place on Tuesday 1st April and Wednesday 2nd April.  The booking system will be going live next week so please keep an eye on the website.

Year 5 Language day at The Corbet

Our year 5 children enjoyed a day out at The Corbet school, learning a variety of new languages, they tried: Spanish, Italian, German, Danish, and Greek! They all represented the school really well and had a wonderful time.

Wow Ambassadors hand out 26 badges!

This month, our WOW ambassadors have been tallying up how children have been arriving to school. Today they handed out 26 badges to all of those children who have walked, cycled, scooted or parked and strode to school. Hopefully with the lighter mornings we will have even more next month!
