Maths

This week we have linked quite a lot of our Maths to this weeks story – ‘Cinderella’.

Children have had to make necklaces using a certain amount of beads, find gems that have been buried for Cinderella’s tiara, work out how many guests can sit at each table at the wedding and we also looked at different ways to represent 6 using a ten frame.

Next week we will be doing more Maths work using the story based on length and height.   If you have any old shoes / wrapping paper / cuboid shaped boxes that you would be happy to donate, please send them in.

This week the children have focused on:

They read words containing these sound, e.g. –  bin   cat  cot  can  kit  mud  up   cup  bad  back   kick   lock

The digraphs we have concentrated on have been:

We warmed up by playing ‘Duck, duck, goose.’ Then the class moved around like different animals, We wonder if you can work out which animals we moved like?

Number and counting

Class 1 have had a very busy week doing lots of Maths work based around ‘The Gingerbread man’

Since returning to school the children have continued to revise Set 1 sounds.  We have focused on the first 10, and used these to form CVC words.

Some children have looked at some trickier digraphs and even a trigraph in Set 2. They have then had a go a writing words with these sounds in and thinking of and saying a sentence.

Nativity and Christmas Concert Performances

Dear Parents/Carers,

The update on the Nativity and Christmas Concert performances is that we will be putting them on in January and we will let you know the dates as soon as they have been arranged. The children have worked hard to prepare for them and we would like to celebrate their hard work, even if it is after the Christmas celebrations. Thank you for your support .

Class 1, 2 & 3 trip to the pantomime

Dear Parents/Carers,

The children are very excited about our trip to the pantomime tomorrow. Please can you ensure your child wears school uniform and brings a packed lunch (no glass bottles please). Children are allowed to bring a healthy snack for the interval.

Many Thanks,

Miss Barratt, Miss Edwards & Mrs Bowes

Maths

The children have focused on the Story of  ‘The very hungry caterpillar’  and had fun working out how many actions they could do in one minute!  The children made their own suggestions what actions to test – how many times they could write their name / how many numbers they could write, how many times they could touch their toes and reach for the sky, how many times they could run across the playground, take off and put on their shoes, how many duplo bricks they could attach together!

We also played the game ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’

Read Write inc – phonics

Free online books to read at home

The children in Class 1 have been enjoying reading and listening to stories from the Oxford Owl website.  I have set up a class 1 login for them to access this at home.
