Home link book reminder

Please could you ensure that any messages regarding clubs/picking up time are written in your child’s home link book each day. It is important for us to know if another person is picking your child up at home time and whether your child is attending clubs. If you child is to regulalrly attend a certain club every week, please could you write this in the home link book so that we can update our records. If there are any changes to arrangements, then please also let us know in the home link book.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs L. Conde

A little bit of Nativity news!

This afternoon, some children in Class One have received a line or two to learn for the Christmas Nativity play.  Please could you support your child in learning these lines at home. They will also have time to learn their line(s) in school time too.

We are hoping to send out the costume letters for all children at beginning of next week.

Please don’t hesitate to come and ask if there is anything you are unsure of.

Many Thanks

L Conde

Homes/Houses

It was lovely to see all of the children in Class One back after a nice half-term break. This week the children spent time sharing their half-term news. They enjoyed telling each other about what they had done over the holidays and quite a few children had different things to show, such as leaflets of where they had been and souvenirs from places they had visited. Lots of children enjoyed playing with friends and of course, enjoyed Halloween festivities.

Show and Tell progressed on to children writing and drawing about their activities. They were encouraged to use phonic mats and their phonic knowledge to attempt to write familiar and unfamiliar words. Some children were set the task of checking their own work and trying to correct any sounds in their writing. They were also encouraged to think carefully about punctuation and how to set out their work.

Some children enjoyed using the laptop drawing programmes to paint pictures of what they did over half term and also lots of children liked making models of things they had done.

Next week, we will be looking at Homes and Houses on Monday and Tuesday. As we will be looking at different types of houses, it would be great if children could bring in a photo of their house for us to look at together. If you would like to do this (this is optional), then please provide a photo clearly labelled with your child’s name. If you would like the photo back straight away then just make a note of this and we will make a copy and send the original back to you. We will be looking at materials used to build houses too, using the story of The Three Little Pigs as a starting point. We hope to look at houses in the village of Bicton and look at the layout of our houses and what we have have in different rooms.

Letters and Sounds is progressing well and on Tuesday we covered the letter ‘Z’. The Year 1 children were finding out about 2 syllable words.

Thank you,

Mrs L Conde.

Making pet carriers

This week we have been looking at what pets we have and talking about them with the rest of the class.  Today we thought about what a pet needs for a pet carrier / home.  We decided that they need food, water, a shelter, air holes, a handle and toys.  We then used junk materials to make our own carrier/home for our pet and thought carefully about what features it needed to include.  Here are some pictures of what we made…

Pet photos and junk materials

Just a reminder for Class 1 to bring in photos of their pets (or pictures of what pet they would like if they don’t have one) tomorrow please.

Also if you have any ‘junk materials’ at home (e.g. cereal boxes, kitchen rolls, etc) can you bring in some for this week please to use for one of our activities.

Many thanks,

Mrs Thomas

Making faces using natural materials

Class 1 have had lots of fun outside this morning using the natural objects they collected at the woods to make large scale faces.   They all worked well in their groups to decide how they were going to make their face and what features to use.  Well done Class 1!

Pet photos

Next Wednesday (October 8th) Class 1 will be looking at and talking about their pets / favourite pets.  Can all children please bring in a photo of their pet so we can look at them together in class.  If they don’t have a pet they can bring in a picture of their favourite pet or a pet they would like.

Many thanks,

Mrs Thomas
