Special Visitor

The children welcomed a special visitor into Class 1 today.  Post woman Jen came in to tell them all about her job.

The children really enjoyed meeting her and they had plenty of questions to ask.

Maths

This week the children have been making up their own number stories about one and two more.  Some children even started to think about what would happen if there was one less.

The children used small world objects to help tell their story – e.g. There were 4 horses in the school field and one more came.  In pairs they worked out the new totals.  Some children will have this recorded in  their online learning journal – Tapestry.

If you see/hear your child using this language at home or in play, please do upload onto their Tapestry area.

Phonics

Over the last 2 weeks the children have been learning the following digraphs:

are – care and share

ur – nurse with a purse

er – a better letter

ow – brown cow

ai – snail in the rain

oa – goat in a boat

Never a dull day…

It’s certainly never a dull day at Bicton, as you can see from the gallery below!  We had some unexpected visitors shortly after 7:30 this morning so it was quite an experience for the staff as well as the children arriving for Breakfast Club.

Thankfully Mrs Ross and Mrs Hill came to the rescue and stepped in to escort the horses back to their field, accompanied by Miss Moran (in some very inappropriate footwear!)  – thank you ladies 🙂 Thank you to the children for being so sensible and to all the staff who directed traffic, escorted children safely past the horses and for cleaning up what the horses left behind!

Chinese New Year

The children in Class 1 have been finding out all about Chinese New Year this week.

In Literacy we read the Story of the race  – http://www.topmarks.co.uk/ChineseNewYear/ZodiacStory.aspx

Then in Maths we looked at what an ordinal number is and used the animals from the story to help us understand 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.

In P.E.  we leaned a Lion Dance and found out that Dragons don’t like red.

In art / DT the children made lanterns and lion masks.

The children found out how to write their initials in Chinese writing.

Finally some of the children enjoyed eating Chinese food for their lunch.

phonics and handwriting practise

Today the children in Class 1 enjoyed revisiting all the sounds we have covered so far.  We sang the Jolly buy xanax 2mg Phonics songs and then practised our letter formations.

Meaures in maths

This week the children have been very busy weighing and balancing items.  They have been using comparative language to compare the weights of parcels and have ordered parcels from lightest to heaviest.

The children have also cooked porridge and have had to weigh out the oats to make it ‘just right!’.  Just like in the story of the 3 Bears.

Phonics

This week the children in Class 1 have been reading and spelling words with split digraphs:

a- e – Make a cake

i-e – A nice smile

o-e Phone home

u-e Huge brute

post office role play

We have started our new topic of The Jolly Postman and Friends, by looking at what a Post person does and what happens in a post office.  The children have started to use our post office area and have lots of ideas about what they want in there.

We wondered if mums and dads could help us out?  Here is our wish list:

*stamps (used ones cut off envelopes)

* stamper to frank the mail with

*post person dress up clothes

* post bag

*unusual shaped parcels for the children to deliver

*old bit of stationery that could be donated

If you have anything that you think would be suitable, Class 1 would be very grateful.

Thank you  🙂
