Support for parents of children starting school / moving to a new school

Moving up and changing school is a big change for children and parents or caregivers. It’s a new stage of growing independence and separation. Fears and worries are normal as well as excitement, as with each stage of childhood development. Parents can help children cope with and overcome their fears, and to nurture them to feel brave and capable.

In Our Place has some great resources around Moving Up which can be accessed here.

Weekly News 03.05.24

Hello everyone,

I hope you are looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend. The children certainly seemed excited in worship this afternoon when I reminded them they weren’t in school now until Tuesday!

Well done and thank you to Kyler and Sam!

As you may remember, Kyler and Sam in Year 6 were doing the Shropshire 5K Mud Run and Kyler set up a JustGiving page to try and raise money for a new basketball hoop for school. They raised a huge £500 which is amazing and will allow us to purchase 2 hoops!

Thank you to everyone who supported the boys’ fundraising efforts and thank you Kyler and Sam for all your hard work!

Weekly News 27.04.24

Hi everyone,

We’ve had a lovely week in school with the children really enjoying being back on the school field at playtimes.

This week’s news has a very active theme about it, starting with photos below of some of our Year 2 children taking part in a multi-sports event at The Corbet School.

Well done Caroline!

As promised, here’s a video of my sister Caroline (AKA Cazzie) running the London Marathon last weekend. Apologies in advance for the screaming!

We managed to see her in 3 different places and this was the last time as she was coming along Birdcage Walk towards the finish line. She never stopped smiling the whole way round!

Thank you to everyone who supported her fundraising efforts for MacMillan Cancer Care.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend x

Mrs Bowes’ visit to 10 Downing Street

Mrs Bowes was recently invited to a special event at 10 Downing Street to celebrate 20 years of parkrun.

The event was hosted by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Lucy Frazer MP, Secretary of State for Culture Media & Sport. As part of the event, Mrs Bowes took part in a mini ‘parkrun’ that started in the Downing Street Garden, went up and down Downing Street twice, before running through the famous front door, and up the stairs where Mr Sunak shook her hand. Mrs Bowes was really excited that Larry the Downing Street cat came out to say hello whilst she was there!

Mrs Bowes has been involved with parkrun since 2013; she was part of the team that set up Shrewsbury parkrun and is still a Core Team member. As well as volunteering at Shrewsbury, Mrs Bowes is a parkrun Volunteer Regional Ambassador for the West Midlands area. As part of this role, she has guided the setting up of several parkruns and junior parkruns across the region. She has also been involved in setting up 2 custodial parkruns. When she is not volunteering on a Saturday and Sunday am, Mrs Bowes enjoys running the events.

Weekly News 19.04.24

Hi everyone,

We’ve had a perfect end to the week with the weather finally being dry enough for children to play on the school field at lunchtime today. In our end of week assembly, I always ask children to share what’s gone well this week and the overwhelming response today was them all being able to play together – big ones and little ones (their words!) – on the school field.

Disabled parking spaces – polite reminder

Please do not use the disabled parking spaces at the front of the school, unless you have mobility difficulties or are a blue badge holder. This will ensure that spaces are available for parents / family members who require them. Thank you in advance for adhering to this request.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I’m off to London tomorrow to watch my sister run the marathon in aid of MacMillan Cancer Care, so I’ll let you know next week how she got on!
