Class 3 Christmas Party

Dear Parents/Carers,

This year we will be having our own class Christmas party on the afternoon of Wednesday 14th December. As I am sure you are aware, this is the same day as the school Christmas Lunch so we are not doing a food list as in previous years but would appreciate any contributions of snack type food – biscuits, crisps, popcorn,  which the children can have throughout the afternoon.

The children must come to school in their uniform but can bring party clothes to change into in the afternoon.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to pop into school to ask. I would just like to take the opportunity to say thank you for your continued support throughout this term and have a Happy Christmas.

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children have not been set spellings this week as next week is very busy with other things going on.

I have told the children that as their homework (this week and over Christmas) I would like them to work really hard on learning their times tables.

Year 3 children need to know their 2, 5, 10, 3, 4, and 8 times tables by the end of Year 3.

Year 4 children need to know all times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4.

I have told children not to overwhelm themselves but to focus on one times table a week to really try to get to grips with.

Thank you for your support with this,

Miss Barratt

Class 3 Weekly Update

Class 3 have been working hard this week:

English – We have continued our work on narrative poetry this week and have linked it to our RE lessons about the Christmas Story. We have looked at how Christmas Carols are poems and analysed them to see which parts of the Christmas Story different ones talk about. We have also planned and written our own Christmas Poems  – retelling all or part of the Christmas story ourselves.

Maths – We have continued our work on multiplication this week and have applied our knowledge of multiplying by 10 and 100 to other contexts. We have also moved onto learning the grid method for multiplication which we will go over again after Christmas.

PE – Children have continued to practise key skills in PE this week.

We have been working very hard this week on final rehearsals ready for Joseph. We can’t wait for you to see it!

Have a lovely weekend!

Class 3 Weekly Update

It’s been another hard working week in Class 3!

English – This week we have been learning about narrative poetry and have read ‘Coming Home’ by Michael Morpurgo – which the children have really enjoyed. We have described the feelings of the character’s in the poem and then planned and wrote our own narrative poem about our journey home from school. The children were very good at this and used lots of fantastic features such as repetition.

Maths – We have continued our work on multiplication and division. This week we have been learning about multiplying and dividing by 10 and where all the digits in a number move when you do this. We have also solved some reasoning problems about multiplication and division.

PE – The children have continued to practise key skills in PE this week.

We have now finished our science topic and will be aiming to finish our geography topic next week too.

The children have been working hard rehearsing for Joseph and it’s all coming together nicely.

Have a lovely weekend!

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have continued learning about prepositions this week. We have learned what time, place and cause prepositions are and have begun to try and apply these to our independent writing. We then did some independent writing towards the end of the week and spent the next lesson self and peer assessing it as well as trying to improve some sentences within it.

Maths: We have moved on to multiplication and division this week. We have learned how the 4 times table can be doubled to get the 8 and the 3 can be doubled to get the 6. We have also been revising how multiplication and division are related and how you can derive related facts from one number sentence – e.g. 3 x 4 = 12, 4 x 3 = 12, 12 ÷ 4 = 3, 12 ÷ 3 = 4. We will continue to reinforce this next week.

Please continue to help your child learn their times tables as this will help them with our maths lessons over the next few weeks.

Science: This week we continued to investigate magnets and their magnetic poles. We were making predictions about when a magnet would attract another magnet and when it would repel.

Geography: We have done some research this week to find out the names and locations of different mountains and hills in the UK. We have done some map reading to help us with this as well.

We have continued to practise our Joseph rehearsal and the children are doing really well! Please keep encouraging your child to practise the songs at home using either their CD or youtube.

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have been focusing on grammar this week and have been revising the different types of sentences – exclamations, commands, statements and questions and we have learned about place prepositions. Next week we will be moving on to learn about time and cause prepositions.

Maths: We have gone over some of the subtraction methods we have learned this term and then towards the end of the week we have learned about doubling and halving two digit numbers.

We will be focusing on multiplication and division for the next few weeks so any help you can give your child to learn their times tables is very much appreciated.

Year 3 children are expected to know the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4, and 8 times tables by the end of year 3 (2, 5 and 10 were taught in Year 2).

Year 4 children are expected to know all the times tables up to the 12 times tables by the end of Year 4.

Science: We did a practical investigation this week where the children were investigating how magnets attract and repel each other.

PSHE: The children have been thinking about what they love about Bicton School and what makes it a good school.

We have been working hard this week on the songs for Joseph and have started to put the production together. Children can find all the Joseph songs on youtube and the words are in a previous post on the website if they wish to practise.
