Class 3 Weekly Update

It’s been another great week in Class 3…..

English – We have continued reading some Roman Myths. The children have done some independent writing where they were re-telling a myth from the perspective of one of the main characters. They have also done some research on Roman gods/goddesses and have even created their own!

Maths – We have been learning about different types of angles this week – right angle, obtuse and acute. We have also been learning about how many degrees are in different turns and have played some games to practise using lots of good mathematical language relating to this.

French – We have begun to learn the names for different items of clothing this week.

Computing – The children have continued to practise their programming skills by playing on scratch.

RE – We have continued to learn about the Holy Trinity. The children matched some kenning poems to each part of the trinity – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit –  and then had a go at writing some of their own.

PSHE – We have been looking at bullying this week – what it is and how we can spot it.

PE – We have continued to learn some country dancing this week and have done some fitness activities.

The children have been set some maths homework on purple mash this week. Children who needed paper copies have been given these as requested. This homework is due in on Friday 3rd February.

Have a lovely weekend!

Class 3 Weekly Update

It’s been another great week in Class 3…

English: The children have enjoyed continuing to read some Roman Myths. We have done some role-play based on these and some grammar and spelling work – revising how to correctly punctuate speech and revision of adding the suffix ‘ly’ to adjectives to make adverbs.

Maths: We have moved onto shape this week. We have been learning about right angles and lines of symmetry as a way of describing a wide variety of shapes. The children have been learning how to spot these, particularly within shapes they are unfamiliar with.

Science: The children have been investigating different types of rocks this week. We have carried out some investigations to test the hardness of rocks and to find out if a rock is permeable.

RE: We have been learning about the Holy Trinity this week. The children have been looking at how Christians describe God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Computing: The children have enjoyed investigating the computer program ‘Scratch’ this week.

PSHE: We have discussed being different and how this can sometimes make us feel. We then discussed various different emotions that we feel at different times. All Class 3 staff were very proud of how open the children were and how sensitive they were towards each other.

Well done Class 3! Have a lovely weekend!

Class 3 Weekly Update

Class 3 have been working hard this week…..

English: We have been reading some Roman myths in English this week. The children have really enjoyed discussing different characters and learning about some of the Roman Gods. They have had a go at re-telling a myth using their own descriptive language. We have also revised some grammatical terms such as nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and adverbial phrases.

Maths: The children have continued to use a number line for division this week, with all children working independently as well as some progressing onto using a blank number line. We have moved onto solving division problems which have remainders and have applied our knowledge to one of our favourite maths stories today called ‘A remainder of one’.

Science: The children have become rock detectives this week to kick off our new topic! They spent some time observing, sketching and labelling some rocks before finding out their names.

History: This week we have been finding out the different countries the Romans invaded and when they invaded them.

RE: We have been discussing the similarities and differences between an infant and adult baptism.

PE: The children have done some fitness activities and have begun to learn some country dancing.

PSHE: The children were asked to make some New Year’s resolutions this week linked to home, school, friends etc.

Spellings: The children have come home with spelling homework this week – they need to write their spellings in a sentence. This is particularly important for the children who have been given homophones for their spellings this week.

Well done Class 3 for another week of hard work. Enjoy the weekend!

Class 3 Weekly Update

Happy New Year! We’ve got straight back to it in Class 3 this week, here are some of the things we’ve been getting up to….

English: We have been doing some grammar work this week, focusing on adverbs for time and place as well as adverbial phrases. We have been learning what these are and have been practising being able to spot them within a sentence. The children have had a go at improving sentences by adding these and will be challenged to create some of their own on Monday.

Maths: We have continued to practise the grid method for multiplication and some children have moved onto the expanded column method. The children have begun to apply their methods to some worded problems this week. We moved onto division today, where we have revised how to use a number line to help us and will continue this next week.

History: The children have been introduced to their new topic about The Romans. They were all very excited and keen to tell me what they already know. We then spent some time looking through information books to get a general overview of The Romans and came up with some questions we would like to find the answers to throughout the term.

RE: We have just begun our incarnation unit which begins by looking at baptism. We have read  and watched clips from the ‘Miracle Maker’ of the baptism of Jesus and discussed how this can help us to understand Christian’s believes in the Trinity.

PE: The children have enjoyed doing some circuit training this week.

French: The children have been learning how to say parts of the body today and had great fun singing ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ in french.

Class 3 Homework

Dear Parents/Carers,

The children have been set a Christmas Holiday homework on purplemash. They have been asked to write a poem about winter or snow. We have been doing lots of work on poetry over the last few weeks and they are very good at writing poems.

There are prompts on the left hand side of the homework online but I have told the children to ignore these and just focus on:

-Descriptive language

– Repetition

– Structuring and organising their poem correctly

This homework is due in on Friday 6th January. I have provided paper copies for the children who said they needed them.

Also, I have reminded children that they are expected to be learning their times tables each week. It is really important they continue to learn them throughout the year as this will help them in many different areas of  maths. We will begin to do times tables tests next term.

Thank you for your continued support throughout this term, it is very much appreciated. I hope you have a very happy Christmas. See you in the new year!
