Year 3 Homework 11.05.18

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have continued reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and have been reading about when the children visit the factory and enter the chocolate room. We have done some writing imagining what the chocolate room is like and all the wonderful things you would find in there. We have also done some story writing this week, writing the story of what the children do during their factory visit.

The Year 2’s have also been doing some revision ready for SATS.

Maths: This week we have moved onto multiplication and division. We have done some work on fact families – finding related x and ÷ facts – e.g. 3 x 4 = 12, 4 x 3 = 12, 12 ÷ 4 = 3, 12 ÷ 3 = 4. We have also been comparing number sentences using the greater than, less than and equals symbols – e.g.             3 x 4 < 5 x 3.

The Year 2 children have been practising lots of different types of questions in preparation for their SATS.

Science: We carried out our ‘hard rock’ investigation this week where the children were testing to see how hard or soft a rock was. They were focusing on carrying out their test fairly and recording their results accurately.

Computing: We have developed our understanding of how to change backgrounds and control two characters within the computer programme Scratch.

PE: The children have continued with their games lessons this week.

RE: The children have been writing some poetry based on their understanding of what Christians believe about God.

Well done for another great week Class 3!

Year 2 Homework

The Year 2 children have been asked to complete pages 30 – 33 of their Reading SATS Booster Book and pages 6, 7, 8 and 9 of their Maths Reasoning SATS Booster Book.

This is due in on Friday 11th May.

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have continued our work on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this week. The Year 3 children have been writing a newspaper report about the finding of the fifth and final golden ticket. They have been challenged to include all the key features such as a headline, quote, introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph.

The Year 2 children have enjoyed listening to the story this week and have  been doing some revision in preparation for their SATS.

Maths: This week we have continued our work on fractions. The year 3 children have done really well at learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. They have done some good problem solving and reasoning relating to this, focusing on giving clear explanations for their answers.

The Year 2 children have been going over equivalent fractions – knowing that a half is the same as two quarters. They have also been doing practise and revision for their SATS.

Science: We have started to plan an investigation to find out about the hardness of different rocks and to find out if they absorb water or not. We will carry out the investigation next week.

History: We have been learning about the Roman Army this week. We have found out about the uniform a Roman soldier would wear and the purpose of it. The children have also enjoyed using the internet and books to do their own research to find out more about the Roman Army.

Computing: The children have continued to develop their programming skills on scratch and have been learning how to control two images on the screen.

RE: The children have been continuing to learn what Christians believe about God and have been listening to a selection of Bible stories to help them understand this.
