Home learning WC: 11.5.20

Good morning Class 2,

I really hope that you are all keeping well and able to enjoy the time at home as much as possible. Thank you so much to those of you who have emailed me. I have loved reading about what you have been up to and the pictures you have sent me. If you have not yet emailed me since the lockdown started, then please do. It would be brilliant to hear from you and to see how you are getting on. As always, please email me if there is ever anything in the slightest that I can do to support you. My email is: Class2@Bicton.shropshire.sch.uk

Thank you to those of you who have contacted me about the Rising Stars reading books. A lot of you have signed up which is brilliant. If you would like your child to have access to an e-book version of the book they would read in school then please let me know the name of your last book your child read and I will get that sorted for you!

Home learning- week commencing 11/5/20

Good morning,

Please find the home learning pack for this week.

Week 6- Home Learning

Please complete as many activities that suit you at home, these are just to give you some ideas about the kind of things we would be looking at in school. From the emails I have received, I can see lots of you are doing different things that fit in with your family eg cooking, riding your bikes, learning about the weather. This is super! So although you might not be managing to complete the activities I have set you are providing extra learning opportunities for your children. Well done to you all!

If you haven’t done so already please see the previous post about reading. I am hoping you will all have time to recommend a book to the rest of class 4.

Remember, I do love receiving your emails and hearing what you have been doing each week so please continue to email me at class4@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk

I hope you are all keeping safe and well,

Mrs Erasmus

Home Learning wb 11.05.20

Good morning Class 5!

I hope you’ve all had a super bank holiday weekend and are well-rested ready for another week of home school.

Thank you so much to everyone who has emailed this week – it’s great to keep in touch at this strange time.  I would like to create a photo gallery of things that you have been doing at home so if you’d like your photo on the website, email it to me before next Friday (15.05.20) so I can put it together.

Thank you to those of you who have managed to create your account with Reading Planet.  We have had some real problems with it this week and I’m unable to access my account at the moment so can’t assign any more books.  I know some people have had trouble accessing the books I have already assigned as well.  I have contacted Reading Planet and I am hoping this will be resolved quickly.  I will update via email when the problems have been rectified.

Here is your home learning for this week.

Home learning for week beginning 11.05.2020 – ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’

Hi Class 1 Children and Adults,

I hope you have all had a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend and managed to celebrate V.E. Day on Friday. Once again I have been pleased to see all your photos and videos showing what you have been doing. It really does put a big smile on my face when I open Tapestry and see your happy faces. So thank you adults for doing this, you can never post too many. Keep an eye out for Class 1, Gallery 2.

This week our home learning activities are based around the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle, you will revisit healthy eating, look at life cycles and investigate symmetry.

A few parents have requested a timetable of when to teach what during the day, so I have put together a rough timetable that you can adopt or adapt to suit your needs. Any feedback is welcome and I am happy to answer questions, just drop me an email – class1@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk

I have put the phonics to later in the morning, as the teaching videos start to be added from 9.30am to 10.45am (depending on which set your child is on). Rosie does all the teaching for you, exactly as I would do in class. If your child has watched all the sound  videos, then watch and do the activities for the Spelling Video (there is no need to watch both). A few parents have mentioned it works really well if you play the video through the T.V.

love,

Mrs Bowes x

Reading Planet update

We are aware that some of you are having difficulty viewing /accessing  the books assigned by teachers and, in some cases, it appears as though books haven’t been assigned when they have.

We can only apologise for this inconvenience – the issues are with the Reading Planet website and are beyond our control. Please continue to contact your child’s class teacher to report any issues and we thank you for your patience.

Mrs Johnson

Reading

Good afternoon children and parents,

Rising Stars

Firstly, those of you who have signed up to Rising Stars, thank you. I have been busy assigning lots of books to children. Can I remind you that alongside each book their is a quiz for your child to complete a ‘?’ symbol will pop up when there is a question to answer. Anyone who hasn’t made an account yet please let me know when you do so.

Book Recommendations

I have received lots of emails from parents asking to recommend books that are suitable for our class. This is great because it means lots of you are reading. Keep it up!

With this in mind, I thought it might be nice for the children to recommend a book they’ve read during quarantine and really enjoyed. I ask you to discuss this with your child so they have a good idea about why they think other children in their class would also enjoy the book and then complete a book review.

I am hoping you will have time to complete these and send them back to me, I can then put them together and share them with the whole class. Mrs Walton and I have completed a book review so you have an idea of how you could help.

I have added a little box at the end for the children to share a message with the rest of their class. This could be something they’ve achieved and are proud of during quarantine or just a message to make their class smile.

book recommendation

If possible please complete the sheet and send it back to me at class4@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk by 16.5.20 and then I can put them together and share it with you all. We hope you enjoy completing this activity and look forward to reading all of your recommendations and messages.

Mrs Erasmus and Mrs Walton

* Weekly news 8th May 2020 *

Hello everyone

I hope you have had a good week and enjoyed the return of the sunshine. It seems strange celebrating VE Day at home and it’s sad not being able to get together with all my family. I know you will be celebrating this special day in different ways whether it be putting up bunting, baking or watching the Queen’s speech and the other commemorative broadcasts on TV.  Whatever you are doing, I hope you are keeping well and staying safe. I hope you have a lovely day and please feel free to email in any pictures of your day!

Sing Up, a singing website which we subscribe to in school, have created a Home area on their website which is totally free and accessible to parents and families. They are uploading videos and resources for children and their families to make the most of singing whilst at home. Click on this link www.singup.org/singupathome to visit their website.

First News

We hope your child has enjoyed reading First News over the past couple of weeks and, if they haven’t had chance to, why not have a read of the latest editions below.

First News 01.05.20

First News VE Day Edition

And finally…

I’ve had a  lovely week in school with our key workers’ children and other staff. We have been gardening, having some very competitive staff v children table-tennis battles (Miss Carr and Mr Andrews not me!), painting VE Day pebbles with Miss Stone and just generally looking after each other.

All was going well until Thursday morning when I decided to cycle to school rather than walk and, let’s just say, my short journey didn’t go as planned. I fell off my bike on the way to school and ended up at RSH with a fractured humerus.  The NHS staff were absolutely amazing and really looked after me, even though they could have done without it with so much else to do.

My husband has been a star and has been taught how to blow-dry and straighten my hair this morning, much to our amusement!

So the next time I tell the children to be careful during a school holiday, and not to come back with any broken bones, I need to follow my own advice!

Take care everyone and stay safe.

Love Mrs Johnson x
