Winter Financial Support – Free School Meal Vouchers

Dear Parents/Guardians

Many people’s financial circumstances have changed due to the pandemic and a lot of people won’t realise they are now entitled to claim support that they weren’t entitled to before.

You may be eligible for free school meals, which if claimed quickly will also entitle you to vouchers over the the winter holiday period.

It takes a few minutes to check your eligibility and apply for the extra support. To do this please click on the following link. https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/free-school-meals/

If you apply by Thursday 10th December and your application is confirmed, you will receive a winter voucher worth £30.00 per child to help you over the two school week holidays. The voucher will be valid at a range of local supermarkets.

If you are already registered for free school meals, you will automatically receive the winter voucher which will be sent to the priority email registered with school.

If you are notified that your application has been confirmed  it would be helpful if you would also email admin@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk so that we know to expect your confirmation from the local authority.

Thank you.

Food tasting in Hazel class

Hello,

Next week we will be doing some food tasting in class, then the following week we will be doing some Christmas baking.  Please can you let me know if your child has any allergies that we don’t already know about.

Many thanks,

Mrs Thomas

Sweets sale

As FOBS are unable to run their Friday sweet sales at the moment, to raise much-needed funds for school, they have come up with an alternative. On Friday 4th, children can buy a pre-prepared mixed bag of sweets for 50p. (Vegetarian sweets can also be pre-ordered in advance, by emailing school no later than 12:30 pm on Thursday.) The bags of sweets will be sold in each classroom at the end of the afternoon for children to take home.

Children need to bring the correct money in an envelope or clear bag and the monies collected will be passed to the FOBs treasurer the following week. FOBS have also got a PayPal account, which they set up earlier this year to raise funds for our school library. Parents can pay for sweets directly through this account here, to save children having to bring money into school.

Hello everyone,

I hope you are remaining well and coping ok with the ongoing restrictions.

We have really missed seeing Hazel class and we can’t wait to see them all back in school on Monday!

Face masks/coverings

Please can we remind all adults coming on to the school site that a face mask/covering should be worn at all times, unless you are exempt. If you wear one to go into shops then you should be wearing one on our school site to keep everyone safe. Thank you

Christmas at Bicton

We would like to say a huge thank you to FOBS who have continued to work hard to raise funds in these challenging times. Part of the funds they have recently donated to school are being used to pay for a virtual pantomime which children will watch on the screen in their classes during the last week of term. THANK YOU FOBS!

Next week we will be sending a letter home explaining what we are doing in the build up to Christmas including: how children can give out Christmas cards to their friends, details on our Christmas grotto/shop, Christmas jumper day, and class ‘performances’, amongst other things.

Have a good weekend and please stay safe.

Read Write inc – Online sound blending books

The children in Willow Class are enjoying reading and listening to stories from the Oxford Owl website.  I have set up a Willow Class login for them to access this at home.  The books work alongside our phonics scheme – Read Write inc. There are also several sound blending books on there for your child to practise segmenting and blending CVC words, this will also help them to become more confident with reading whole words.

Click on the class login button and enter the details below.

Microsoft Teams

Good afternoon,

Please could you support your child with logging into Microsoft Teams this afternoon/evening to complete a task. This has been set up to make sure everyone knows how to access the work set in the event of self isolating or the bubble closing. I have been through the steps with the class this afternoon and they should know where to find the task set, there are some simple instructions if they have forgotten.

Please let me know if you have any difficulties.

Many thanks, Mrs Erasmus

Microsoft Teams

Hello,

The children have all been assigned a piece of work to their Microsoft Teams account this morning. The reason for this is to ensure that in case we ever have the unfortunate situation of our bubble closing then we are fully prepared. The piece of work which has been assigned is just a test and does not have any significance to what the children are learning in school. We are asking that you can please use the Microsoft Teams logins and log in either tonight or tomorrow with your children to ensure that this process runs smoothly. Please can you make sure that the work is submitted so that the whole process is assessed.

There are instructions on the assignment in order to help both yourselves and your children complete the practice piece of work. The children’s logins for Microsoft Teams are stuck in their reading diary. If there are any questions at all then please email me or contact me on ClassDojo

Best wishes,

Mr Taylor
