Class 4 Homework

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week we have been looking at number and place value in Maths.

We are sending out homework tonight on this subject that is set according to children’s end of year expectations. We expect that all children complete some homework each week. Children can choose which questions they would like to do, independently or with your support, that will consolidate the work that we have been doing in class.

If any children feel that they would like an extra challenge, they should speak to an adult in Class 4, and we will happily send additional homework out.

Homework this year will be sent home in a homework book on a Wednesday and should be returned to school by the following Monday. This is so that it can be marked and new homework stuck in before it is due to be sent out again.

We thank you for your support with this.

Kind regards,

Mrs Chadwick and Mrs Foster

Class 4 Homework

This week children have a sheet of words containing prefixes.

We would like them to sort them and investigate the effect each prefix has on the root word. How does it change the meaning of the word? It might be useful to use a dictionary to help.

Please could children then write between 4 and 10 sentences containing different words from the sheet. Please ensure sentences make sense and encourage children to write extended sentences.

Thank you for your support.

Class 4 Homework

The children need to investigate two habitats in or around your garden and collect information about these. They then need to investigate two animals that they have found in these habitats.

The worksheets are attached below:

Class 4 Homework

This week children have been learning about co-ordinates. Homework includes some practise and a game that can be played with 2 or more players.

The digit cards referred to in the game will be given out with homework and children can use coloured pencils to mark on the grid rather than counters.

If you need any extra copies, please ask an adult in Class 4.

Homework will be given out after the Maths lesson on Thursday to be returned the following Wednesday.

Thank you.

Mrs Chadwick

This term the children have been learning about the Ancient Greeks. They have spent the last 3 weeks reading and writing their own Greek Myths and Legends.

Please could children read the Greek Myth Jason and the Golden Fleece and answer the text level questions in the purple section. They may answer additional sentence and word level questions as an extension but this is optional.

The text and questions are attached below:

Class 4 Homework

This week the children have been looking at equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions. For homework, we would like the children to practise simplifying using the online game:

http://www.iboard.co.uk/iwb/Simplifying-Fractions-Game-366

The game firstly asks for the highest common factor (the highest number that can divide into the number on the top and bottom of the fraction) and then children need to divide the top and bottom number by the number they have selected to give them the simplified fraction.

When children have done this they can have a go at simplifying fractions on the worksheet using the same method.

Please ask if anything requires further explanation. Children are welcome to use the school computers at break time if they are unable to access the game at home.

Please note, the link to the worksheet also contains the answers (for parents eyes only!!) Yellow group can choose either worksheet to complete.

Class 4 Homework

Over the Easter holidays, we would like the children to write and design their own information leaflet. Please could it be about somewhere that they have visited over the next couple of weeks. They can use many of the organisational features of non-fiction texts that we have covered this year, such as:

  • Headings/Subheadings
  • Paragraphs/Bullet points
  • Diagrams/Pictures/Photographs
  • Captions/Labels
  • Fact boxes

The children could even have a go at using persuasive language that would encourage other people to visit.

Please could homework be returned by the first Wednesday back.

If you have any questions regarding the homework, please do not hesitate to speak to us.

Thank you for your support.

Class 4 Homework

Over the past couple of weeks the children have been learning about different units of measure. For homework this week, could they please complete the reading activity, game and quiz on the BBC Bitesize website for KS2 on measures.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/shape_space/measures/read/1/

If children are not able to access the website at home, they are welcome to use the school laptops at playtimes at the beginning of next week.

In English, we have been learning about the Shaman’s Apprentice and talking about how it makes us feel.
Can you use the thinking questions or cues to discuss a book of your choice with an adult? Write down your thoughts!

I like the bit where…
It reminds me of…
It makes me feel…
I don’t like it when…
I wonder if…
Do you think that…?
I don’t understand…
Have you noticed that?
