Welcome Back video

Hi everyone

At last I’ve got around to creating a video to say hello and to show you what school looks like at the moment for those children who are returning over the next couple of weeks. Apologies for getting a touch of the giggles part of the way through!

Key worker provision 29.05.20

Hello everyone,

I hope you’ve had a good week and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine!

If you need key worker provision next week, and you haven’t already contacted me, please can you email me by 6:00 pm on Saturday evening so that I can organise staffing. If your child has been attending every day, or if your child is in Year 1 and they have been attending  Wednesday to Friday each week, there is no need to contact me as your child is already booked in.

Key worker children should still be brought to the Hall door next week (from 8:00 am onwards) and the provision is still running until 4:30 pm. Please can we ask that children are collected no later than 4:30 pm, as staff are not available after this time, Thank you.

We have seen an increase in requests for key worker places over the last week. Therefore, if you know you are going to need a key worker place for your child next week onwards, it is vital that you contact me as soon as possible.

Please remember our letter last week set out what our plans may look like and there is every possibility that these may change. We are awaiting our COVID-19 Re-opening Risk Assessment to be approved by the Local Authority and we are not permitted to invite more children back into school until this is in place.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Stay safe

Key worker provision

Thank you for the lovely messages we have received from our key worker parents over the past few weeks and for working in partnership with us to keep your children, your families and our staff safe.

Key workers’ children will continue to be given priority for school places, in line with the government guidance. Please remember to email me directly at head@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk if you require a key worker place, so that we know to expect your child and to arrange staffing.

Wishing you all a safe and happy bank holiday weekend.

May half term

We will be sending out more information later this week, explaining our current plans for a phased return, so please keep an eye on the website / your emails.

*Update 15th May 2020*

Dear families

Firstly, I just want to say thank you for the swift response to our parent survey for those with children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.  We appreciate and fully understand the comments and concerns raised and these will be considered as part of our planning for a phased re-opening.

At present, we are awaiting further information from the Local Authority who in turn are awaiting clarification on a range of issues from the Department for Education.  As soon as we have more information, we will let you know which groups of children we are able to invite back into school first and when this will start to take place. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience and understanding.

Finally, thank you for all the photos you have been sending through to class teachers. It is so lovely to see what children are doing and know that you are all safe. I’ve got a photo to share with you this week. Yesterday morning Coco starting barking crazily outside and, when we looked through the window, this is what we saw…how beautiful!

We have no idea how they got into our garden or where they came from!

Take care

*Important News – 11.05.20*

Good afternoon everyone,
Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday evening, we are sure that you have many questions, as we do, that you would like clarifying.
We have not yet received any information to support us with this new plan to start a phased return for children in some year groups.   We expect to receive guidance from the Department for Education and the Local Authority very soon.
Please be assured that the safety of our children, staff and school community is our key priority. We will only begin a phased return when we feel it is safe to do so and following an extensive risk assessment process.
As always, we will keep you updated but, for now, please do not worry. We will continue to provide home learning for our children, keep in contact with you and continue to support each other during these difficult and uncertain times.
In the meantime, we will continue to provide childcare provision for our key workers at Bicton.
Take care
Mrs Johnson and staff

Reading Planet update

We are aware that some of you are having difficulty viewing /accessing  the books assigned by teachers and, in some cases, it appears as though books haven’t been assigned when they have.

We can only apologise for this inconvenience – the issues are with the Reading Planet website and are beyond our control. Please continue to contact your child’s class teacher to report any issues and we thank you for your patience.

I hope you have a lovely day and please feel free to email in any pictures of your day!

First News VE Day Edition

And finally…

I’ve had a  lovely week in school with our key workers’ children and other staff. We have been gardening, having some very competitive staff v children table-tennis battles (Miss Carr and Mr Andrews not me!), painting VE Day pebbles with Miss Stone and just generally looking after each other.

All was going well until Thursday morning when I decided to cycle to school rather than walk and, let’s just say, my short journey didn’t go as planned. I fell off my bike on the way to school and ended up at RSH with a fractured humerus.  The NHS staff were absolutely amazing and really looked after me, even though they could have done without it with so much else to do.

My husband has been a star and has been taught how to blow-dry and straighten my hair this morning, much to our amusement!

So the next time I tell the children to be careful during a school holiday, and not to come back with any broken bones, I need to follow my own advice!

Take care everyone and stay safe.

Love Mrs Johnson x
