Forest school week 2

This week the children had a go at making bird feeders and fishing rods – just like Super Worm made in our story.

Tennis

Class 1 enjoyed the 2 tennis sessions this term.  Next term Class 1 will have Embrace PE on a Friday, this may be done outside so please make sure your child had joggers / leggings to wear.

How to make a sandwich

Gordon wanted to make a sandwich but he got the sequence all muddled up!  So Class 1 had to work out the correct to sequence to make a jam or cheese sandwich.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Our focus story this week has been Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.  We have based our Literacy and Maths around this.

In Maths the children have looked at capacity, they worked out which bowl / cup belonged to each bear and explained why.  They then investigated the capacity of different containers to work out which one would hold the most / least.

The children have acted out the story and in Child Initiated time had the opportunity to use the story props independently.   They have sequenced the story and had a go at writing it out.   The children have also had a go at writing a letter of apology from Goldilocks to the 3 Bears.

Class 1 made porridge, they used their senses to describe what it looked like, smelt like and tasted like.  We added different ingredients to each bowl and the children were able to talk about whether it was sweet, sour etc.

Some children chose to use the chalks to make a map from Goldilocks house to the 3 Bear’s cottage.

Read Write Inc

The children have continued to revisit Set 1 sounds and used them to write words and sentences.  We are starting to see a lot more children have the confidence to write in Child initiated time and show good use of  their phonics knowledge to sound out and write words.

Some children have revisited igh – fly high, ow – blow the snow and oo – poo at the zoo.   For each trigraph/digraph the  children have written their own independent sentence with words containing the sound.

Shape

Over the last 2 weeks, we have looked at 2d and 3d shapes.

The children have looked at identifying and talking about the properties of the shapes.

They have made shape patterns, shape pictures, built with 3 d shapes, made straw nets and clixi 3d shapes. The children have enjoyed singing – https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A
