Maths

Class 1 have been using 10 frames to make 2 digit numbers.

Bean plants homework project

Class 1 children were all excited to take home their bean stalks.  Over the last few weeks the children have  carefully monitored the growth and compared whose has grown the tallest / most each day.  They were also very good at making sure they all got watered.

We would like you and your child to keep a record of their bean and how well it continues to grow.  I look forward to seeing updates on Tapestry.

It seems a long time ago since we planted them!

This week the children have continued to revise and use the sounds taught over the year.

Our focus sounds were:

i-e – a nice smile

igh – fly high

Thank you for feeding back on how your child is getting on with reading their ditties and group book words.  We have enjoyed reading some of the sentences children have written at home and shared on Tapestry.

Maths

This week Class 1 have been busy sorting 2d shapes using different criteria.

Maths

This week the children have looked at comparing heights.

We linked this in with our focus story – Jack and the Beanstalk and with the beans that the children have planted.

They also looked at how we can measure using non standard units.

This week we have concentrated on the sounds:

oi – spoil the boy

oy – toy for the boy

The children have continued to practise sounds from set 1 and 2.

You will have noticed as well as bringing home a school reading book the children have also brought home words that are linked to their group text.  These are for you to practise with your child and also give your child an opportunity to discuss the ditty or story they are doing in class.

Maths

This week we have concentrated on number bonds for 6 and 7.

The children have investigated different ways to make these numbers.

Children chose their own ways e.g. sharing beans into plant pots, using the numicon, putting double coloured beans in a pot and shaking it to see which side they landed on and then working out the part, part whole.
