Head of School Message

Dear parents/carers,

We have made it to the end of the first half term! And finished off with an extremely busy week full of hard work, parent meetings and dance performances! A huge thank you to those of you who came to meet with your child’s class teacher this week to see how they have settled in.  If you were not able to attend, please contact your child’s class teacher via admin@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk and they will arrange a catch up with you.

We would be very grateful if parents/carers are able to spare a few minutes to complete our survey: Parent/Carer Survey Autumn 2025.  This helps us to know what we are doing well, and what we can do better on and we truly value all of your input.

Have a lovely week and we will look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 4th November.

Consultation on Updated RSHE Policy – September 2026 Implementation

Dear Parents and Carers,
We are writing to inform you of an important update regarding the Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum. In July 2025, the Department for Education issued revised statutory guidance on RSHE, which will come into effect from September 2026.
In response to this change, our school has developed a draft RSHE policy that reflects the new government requirements while remaining sensitive to the needs and values of our school community. A copy of the draft policy is now available to view on the school website: Policies and School Development
As part of our commitment to working in partnership with families, we will be holding a parent/carer consultation during the week commencing 10th November 2025. This will take the form of an online questionnaire, which will be sent to you directly by the school.
Your feedback is vital in helping us shape a policy that reflects our shared values and supports our pupils effectively. We would greatly appreciate your time in reviewing the draft and providing your thoughts.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Mavin

News from the Severn Loop

Dear Friends,
As we begin our season of remembrance, we are holding a Pet Memorial Service at Albrighton Church at 3pm on Sunday (26th October, followed by refreshments). Our service will include an opportunity to give thanks for our deceased non-human companions whom we’ve loved and cared for down the years. All are most welcome, and if you’ like to, you could bring a photo of the pet/s you are remembering. We hope that our time together will be a source of comfort to all who mourn the loss of an animal companion.
Please note, this isn’t a ‘Pet service’, so we’re only expecting humans to attend! Albrighton Church is opposite the Albrighton Hall Hotel, and there is parking- just after you pass the church on your right, turn immediately right and then right again, and you’ll go down a track to the carpark.
With blessings,
Hannah x

Reading The Game Champions!

Birch class had their last reading the game session with Coach Neil from Shrewsbury Town Football Club this week. All children managed to secure themselves a win in the RTG Champions league final! Over the half term children have enjoyed a wide range of reading and writing activities including writing persuasive letters, recounts and even submitting designs for a new Shrewsbury Town kit!

Young Voices 2026

Bicton are very excited to be joining in with Young Voices 2026!

With Young Voices, your child will learn the songs in school as part of their choir. Along the way, you’ll both have access to online resources at home – perfect for practising the music and dance moves together and making the journey even more fun. We will be running this as an after school club on Tuesdays until 4.30pm with Miss Merricks.

After weeks of rehearsal, your child will join up to 9,000 others at Birmingham BP Pulse Live arena on Monday 12th January 2026. They’ll rehearse together for the first time on the day, before performing in a spectacular evening concert with special guests, amazing sound and lighting, and a full arena audience.

We have 20 places available to Bicton children in Years 5 and 6 only in the first instance.

Places will be bookable from tomorrow afternoon and will be on a first come, first served basis. Your child must be able to commit to attending the rehearsals on Tuesdays 3.30 – 4.30pm and attend to concert on Monday 12th January, returning after 10pm. More details will follow for those children who book a place.

You must book a place on School Gateway before making payment- paying for a place without booking will not guarantee a place! To book Young Voices, you must go the CLUBS tab first to book a place. Paying for a club without booking a place will not secure a place!!

Head of School Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you so much for your generous donations in support of World Mental Health Day—we raised over £125, which is absolutely brilliant!

On Thursday, we wore blue to mark Youth Awareness Day, helping to raise awareness and spark conversations among our pupils.  In support of this initiative, we’re excited to host a Toy and Book Drop & Swap—please see the website post for full details on how to get involved.

Next week is the final week of this half term, and we have a busy and exciting schedule:

  • Maple and Oak Classes will be visiting Shrewsbury Flaxmill on Tuesday.
  • Oak Class will enjoy their special parent lunches on Wednesday, followed by whole school parent drop-ins in the afternoon.
  • On Thursday at 2.45pm, we invite you to join us for our PE Dance Showcase—a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the children’s creativity and movement.  Please enter school through the side door and head straight to the Hall.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend, and thank you again for your continued support.

Friends of Bicton School (FOBs) News!

Hi. It’s Laura from Friends of Bicton School and I am the acting chair. FOBS is a charity that hopes to run events for the children to have fun and try and fundraise for the school.
At our meeting this week, we had quite a few people offering to help FOBS going forward which is great, but any more help would also be appreciated.  We are looking for people for a variety of roles varying from helping out at events, serving tea/coffee at other events or even just donating small items such as cake or tidying up. Please let us know if you are interested.
There is a Facebook group for the school (it is a private group), managed by FOBS, which you can join if you wish. The group is called Friends of Bicton School and Nursery. We will use this to continue to update with our plans and share news relating to the school. We also aim to continue to use the school newsletter for updates.
You are warmly invited to our AGM on Thursday 18th November at 7.30pm at school to discuss events and finalise roles on the committee.
