World Book Day – Thursday 7th March 2024

We will be celebrating World Book Day in school and nursery, with lots of book-related activities, including shared reading across classes. Children can come to school or nursery dressed as a book character OR they can just wear comfy reading clothes instead.

Competitions

We will not be holding a ‘best costume’ competition this year, as we do not want to put pressure on parents to spend money on costumes etc. Instead, we will be holding the following competitions for children:

  • Extreme reading – email class teachers or the school office a photo of your child reading in an extreme or unusual location. Previous entries include children sat in a chicken coop, on a tube on the London underground, or even in the bath. Be as imaginative as you wish!
  • Potato, pebble or paper plate –  decorate a potato or a pebble or a paper plate however you like, as long as it relates to a book. The photos below show children’s potato book characters from a few years ago and might give you some ideas!

March news from around Severn Loop

Dear Friends,

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant Hapus! I hope you have a lovely (if rainy) St David’s Day.
Attached is the March Loop- which has information about Easter services, joining the handbells team, the next Forest Church, a Pre-Loved Sale and more….
This coming Sunday we will end our service at Bicton by hearing a Welsh psalm and hymn- in honour of St David’s Day and in recognition that we have a good number of Welsh speakers in the congregation- we’ll see how the rest of us do!
This Sunday is also the first service back at Leaton (after a couple of months over at the Mission Church). We still don’t have a functioning boiler, but the wardens have worked really hard to provide alternative heating- we’re deeply grateful to Pat and Peter for all their efforts- thank you. There is still a long road ahead, but we’re hoping the weather will at least get warmer as the weeks go on.
Finally, do please keep the family of friends of Roger Bright in your prayers- it is his funeral today, 1.30pm at Bicton Church (all are welcome). Roger was a faithful member of the Montford congregation for many years, and a well-respected local farmer. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
With blessings,
Hannah x
